Affinity Water is offering a fantastic career opportunity to join our skilled frontline teams as an Apprentice Field Technician.

As an apprentice, you’ll join a recognised water industry training programme, carefully tailored to your development and delivered by leading industry experts.

You’ll be working in a real team alongside people with years of solid experience, who will give you day-to-day support and mentorship, helping you to learn the tools and techniques you need to build a rewarding career in the water industry.

About Our Field Technicians

Our Field Technicians play a vital role in the repair, maintenance, and operation of our water distribution network, ensuring we consistently deliver high-quality drinking water to our customers.

In this varied, field-based role, you’ll travel to different locations and company sites to carry out both planned maintenance and emergency repairs. You’ll be responsible for a range of tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Repairing and maintaining the water distribution network
  • Responding to both planned and emergency works
  • Operating mobile plant and equipment, including mini excavators and vibrating machinery
  • Working safely on streets and highways, adhering to traffic management and health and safety regulations
  • Carrying out excavation, pipe repairs, and reinstatement works
  • Utilising specialist tools and equipment to complete work efficiently and to a high standard
  • Delivering excellent customer service while working in public and outdoor areas

Responsibilities

  • Primary focus on practical water infrastructure maintenance and repair
  • Collaborative work with colleagues across different areas, ensuring proper customer support
  • Operating in various weather conditions while maintaining high health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Progressive application of construction equipment (biomechanical handling, machine proficiency)

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a full UK Clean driving licence (manual transmission preferred but not essential)
  • Possess at least three GCSEs (grade 4/C or above in any subjects) (desirable)
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform manual handling safely and competently (progressive roster over time)
  • Exhibit proficiency in travel and equipment proficiency in the role’s core competencies
  • Pass a fitness-to-work test with vibration limits under 400
  • Sound communication (verbal and written) skills when interacting with stakeholders
  • Competency with desktop IT software and software platforms
  • Eagerness for environmental stewardship and industry growth
  • Should possess independent and team-centric work ethic
  • Commitment to community involvement through tasks
  • Possession of a desire for career progression and a passion for lifelong learning
