As an apprentice, you’ll join a recognised water industry training programme, carefully tailored to your development and delivered by leading industry experts.
You’ll be working in a real team alongside people with years of solid experience, who will give you day-to-day support and mentorship, helping you to learn the tools and techniques you need to build a rewarding career in the water industry.
About Our Field Technicians
Our Field Technicians play a vital role in the repair, maintenance, and operation of our water distribution network, ensuring we consistently deliver high-quality drinking water to our customers.
In this varied, field-based role, you’ll travel to different locations and company sites to carry out both planned maintenance and emergency repairs. You’ll be responsible for a range of tasks including, but not limited to:
- Repairing and maintaining the water distribution network
- Responding to both planned and emergency works
- Operating mobile plant and equipment, including mini excavators and vibrating machinery
- Working safely on streets and highways, adhering to traffic management and health and safety regulations
- Carrying out excavation, pipe repairs, and reinstatement works
- Utilising specialist tools and equipment to complete work efficiently and to a high standard
- Delivering excellent customer service while working in public and outdoor areas

Responsibilities
- Primary focus on practical water infrastructure maintenance and repair
- Collaborative work with colleagues across different areas, ensuring proper customer support
- Operating in various weather conditions while maintaining high health, safety, and environmental standards
- Progressive application of construction equipment (biomechanical handling, machine proficiency)
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a full UK Clean driving licence (manual transmission preferred but not essential)
- Possess at least three GCSEs (grade 4/C or above in any subjects) (desirable)
- Demonstrate the ability to perform manual handling safely and competently (progressive roster over time)
- Exhibit proficiency in travel and equipment proficiency in the role’s core competencies
- Pass a fitness-to-work test with vibration limits under 400
- Sound communication (verbal and written) skills when interacting with stakeholders
- Competency with desktop IT software and software platforms
- Eagerness for environmental stewardship and industry growth
- Should possess independent and team-centric work ethic
- Commitment to community involvement through tasks
- Possession of a desire for career progression and a passion for lifelong learning

- Competitive 60% wage at £22,150, with a flex allowance of £4,493
- Upon achieving performance targets, the salary advance:
- To 75% at 12 months
- To 90% at 18 months
- Feasible target completion leading to a potential earned salary of £41,410 plus flex allowance
