About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity to begin your career in finance within a supportive and growing construction business. You will gain hands-on experience working within the Finance Department, supporting a range of accounting & administrative activities while studying towards a nationally recognised qualification.

What You'll Do at Work

  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Finance Department.
  • Learn and assist with Purchase Ledger processing, including matching, checking and coding supplier invoices.
  • Support Sales Ledger activities, including raising invoices and monitoring customer payments.
  • Assist with supplier statement reconciliations and resolving invoice queries.
  • Help process supplier payment runs under supervision.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate financial records and filing documentation.
  • Support the preparation of weekly and monthly financial reports.
  • Assist with employee expense claims and company credit card reconciliations.
  • Provide administrative support for payroll processes, including time sheet administration.
  • Maintain electronic records using the company's accounting and document management systems.
  • Liaise professionally with suppliers, subcontractors and internal departments.
  • Support the wider business with administrative tasks as required.

Course Contents

  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training Schedule

This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our Derby Road Campus. This attendance is required during term time only.

You will work with expert assessors and tutors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.
You will experience a blended learning model.

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade 4)
    • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
