Apprentice Fitter / Technician – 4-Year Programme

Principal Responsibilities

This 4-year apprenticeship programme blends on-the-job training with formal qualifications.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop skills in fitting, testing, quality inspection, and factory maintenance, supporting related programmes (e.g., Customer Engineering Services, CES)
  • Attend day-release college to complete BTEC assignments and exams
  • Achieve a level 3 NVQ qualification in mechanical manufacturing/engineering.
  • Complete and present engineering projects related to key competencies.

Other Key Tasks

  • Work collaboratively in manufacturing teams, including setup, production, and assembly of components.
  • Assist in maintaining zero harm health & safety standards.
  • Attend performance reviews and feedback sessions, while demonstrating commitment to continuous improvement.

Skills, Education & Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, English, and Science (Grade C/4 or above).
  • Legal right to work in the UK (includes eligibility for Security Clearance).
  • Commitment to completing the full 4-year apprenticeship.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Daily

  • Standing, sitting, walking, talking & clear hearing/vision for machinery and office work.
  • Daily use of hands, fingers and arms (e.g., keyboards, telephones).
  • Engagement with digital platforms for extended periods (office/work trading).

Occasional

  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling for maintenance tasks.
  • Light-to-moderate object handling (e.g., lifting parts from/to shelves/equipment).
  • Travel ( routinely by road/air which may require prolonged sitting).

Work Environment

  • Office: Collaborative open-plan areas or individual offices.
  • Noise level: Business office noise (typical: computers, printers, telephones).
  • Comfort: Extended periods seated at computer stations or vehicles.
