During the Non-Destructive Testing Technologies Technician apprenticeship, you will gain PCN qualifications that are internationally recognised and have the opportunity to shadow existing NDT technicians on and off site.
Requirements
- GCSE in Mathematics (grade 4)
- A BSc in Engineering or relevant scientific discipline is desired.

Responsibilities
- Assisting personnel at Inspection Engineer level and above in performing NDT on a wide range of Marine and land-based assets
- Corrosion mapping utilising complex ultrasonic and electromagnetic methods
- Modelling of inspection data
- Work as part of a project team to produce detailed, technical inspection reports
- Assisting in failure investigations
- Assist in equipment functionality checks & calibrations
- Perform any assigned tasks with due diligence regarding Brookes Bell’s integrated quality management systems
- Identify, organise, and use resources to complete inspections, tests or monitoring on materials, products plant or machinery for the non-destructive technology.
- Plan, prepare for, and apply inspections, tests, or monitoring on materials, product plants or machinery using non-destructive technology.
- Use project management techniques throughout project phases.
- Implement quality control procedures.
- Comply with health and safety regulations and procedures. Apply safe systems of work.
- Identify and document risks and hazards in the workplace. Advise on and apply control measures.
- Comply with environmental and sustainability regulations and procedures.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Identify and report on progress of work, and issues or concerns of the non-destructive technology method.
- Apply maintenance practices and techniques for tools, materials, and equipment.
- Select, configure, use, and operate tools and equipment.
- Apply and review inspection and monitoring procedures.
- Perform non-destructive technology methods in line with national and international standards.
- Apply non-destructive technology methods and techniques.
- Identify problems and apply analytical tools to identify causes and solutions.
- Collect and interpret technical or analytical information or datasets from performed non-destructive technology tests.
- Apply team working principles including provide information, guidance, or training to colleagues or stakeholders.
- Apply, equity, diversity, and inclusion procedures.
- Write technical reports.
- Communicate verbally with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Use information technology.
- Carry out and record learning and development activities.

- Wage: £15,600 to £24,784.50, depending on your age
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 5.30pm. 1-hour lunch break (37 hours 30 minutes a week)
- Duration: 2 years
- 22 days of annual leave

- Upon completion of the apprenticeship and satisfactory performance in the role the individual will be promoted to be an Inspection Engineer in the following January or July. Career Progression in the years following is determined by meeting relevant targets. Promotion applications are accepted twice a year in July and January.

About Brookes Bell
Brookes Bell provides multidisciplinary technical and scientific consultancy to the maritime and energy industries. The Lab provides services in forensic engineering analysis, investigation and testing including NDT. The NDT department specialises in advanced electromagnetic testing and ultrasonic testing, working for clients such as the Royal Navy, MOD and a wide range of commercial entities.
