North Yorkshire Council is excited to offer a fantastic opportunity to start a career in Outdoor Education! We operate two residential centres—Bewerley Park near Pateley Bridge and East Barnby near Whitby—specialising in personal development for young people through real outdoor education and adventure learning.
About Us
Welcome to the mountains, moorland, lakes, rivers, woodlands, caves, and Jurassic coastline of North Yorkshire—our classroom. Here, students embark on outdoor adventures so extraordinary they discover capabilities they never knew they had, all while learning to respect and care for the natural environment… creating lifelong memories along the way. Since 1940, we have been at the heart of authentic outdoor education in Yorkshire and Northeast England. Our two centres—Bewerley Park in the Yorkshire Dales and East Barnby on the Yorkshire Moors National Park coastline—offer a wide range of residential and day courses for primary and secondary schools, as well as higher education, youth, and adult groups.
Tasks and Training Details
The week starts with a team briefing, followed by preparation for the week ahead, including equipment checks and site readiness. Once schools arrive, most of your time will be spent delivering a dynamic programme of activities. Programmes typically feature a variety of adventurous outdoor experiences. After groups depart, time is spent tidying and preparing for the next arrivals.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
