Apprentice Plant Fitter

The Role of Apprentice Plant Fitter

We are excited to share an opportunity to join our Plant Operations Team as an Apprentice Plant Fitter. This 4-year modern apprenticeship will provide hands-on experience, training, and support, leading to a SCQF Level 6 qualification in Engineering/Plant Maintenance, as outlined by CITB guidelines.


About the Apprenticeship

The programme combines on-site training with college attendance to deliver both practical and theoretical knowledge, equipping you with the skills required to become a skilled plant fitter while working with machinery and systems.


Key Responsibilities

Mechanical & Electrical Plant Maintenance

  • Gain practical experience in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of plant equipment and machinery
  • Learn fault diagnosis, issue identification, and repair or maintenance execution
  • Assist in the disassembly, repair, and reassembly of plant machinery under the guidance of experienced fitters

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with experienced fitters to learn industry expertise
  • Contribute to daily tasks and team projects to support smooth plant operations
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure seamless machinery functionality

Customer Service & Communication

  • Develop strong communication skills when interacting with customers, team members, and suppliers
  • Provide accurate updates on maintenance work and service issues
  • Assisting with customer queries regarding plant equipment

Technical Skills Development

  • Receive hands-on training in plant fitting, diagnostics, repair, and servicing
  • Learn safe and efficient use of tools, machinery, and equipment
  • Work with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
  • Gain experience operating excavators, cranes, forklifts, and heavy machinery

College Attendance & Study

  • Attend CITB-designated college courses to complete theoretical components
  • Study for SCQF Level 6 qualification in Engineering/Plant Maintenance
  • Apply classroom learning to real-world situations on-site

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Complete health and safety training specific to plant fitting and engineering
  • Follow safety procedures when working with machinery to prevent accidents
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements

Record-Keeping & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs
  • Update parts inventories, maintenance logs, and service histories
  • Support both electronic and manual record-keeping systems

Requirements

To excel in this role, you should ideally possess the following attributes:

  • A genuine interest in mechanics, engineering, or plant fitting
  • A strong desire to develop technical skills through training and real-world experience
  • Passion for continuous learning in plant maintenance and repair
  • Dedication to balancing practical work and theoretical study as required by the apprenticeship
