Job Description: Apprentice Producer
These roles are ideal for people who are passionate about radio, music, entertainment, digital content and learning how great audio is made. We have 5 Apprentice Producer roles in; Kiss, Hits Radio, Bauer Radio Specialist Brands (Jazz FM / Planet Rock), Absolute Radio & Magic Radio & in the Music team.
Responsibilities
As an Apprentice Producer, you’ll support the teams who create, plan and deliver audio content every day. Depending on the role, this could include helping with live shows, editing audio, preparing content for broadcast, supporting presenters and producers, researching ideas, managing guests, working on competitions, speaking to listeners, organising content, and helping teams get ready for the next show.
Apprentice Producer: KISS
This role is focused on supporting pre-recorded shows across KISS and its sub-brands.
- You’ll spend time editing audio, preparing content for broadcast, listening back to output and learning the technical side of radio production.
- Over time, you’ll build the skills to help produce smaller shows.
Apprentice Producer: Hits Radio
This role supports the Hits Radio breakfast team, working in both a live studio environment and on post-show production.
- You’ll help the team during the live show, which could include answering studio calls, briefing callers, supporting producers and helping the show run smoothly.
- After the show, you’ll help with editing, planning, preparing content notes, sharing audio and getting things ready for the next day.
Apprentice Producer: Specialist Brands, including Jazz FM and Planet Rock
This role supports our Specialist Brands team, working across stations such as Jazz FM and Planet Rock.
- You’ll help with station events, competitions, general admin and keeping archives organised.
- These brands also create detailed documentary-style content, so research will be an important part of the role.
Apprentice Producer: Absolute Radio and Magic Radio
This role works across both Absolute Radio and Magic Radio, supporting key shows and wider production tasks.
- You’ll help with recording and editing, managing guests, listener engagement, and assistant production work on shows such as request shows.
- You’ll also support with services such as EPGs and other behind-the-scenes broadcast tasks.

Apprentice Producer: Music Team
This role supports the Music Team across our stations and platforms, including Rayo and our premium stations.
- You’ll help with playlist research, music scheduling and reporting, supporting weekly playlist meetings for brands such as KISS and Hits Radio.
- This could include looking at trends, competitor activity, Spotify charts, social media and presenter feedback to help inform music decisions.
Training
Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
Course Contents
- Interpret the aims of the brief.
- Research ideas and concepts to meet the brief.
- Evaluate brand requirements and brand guidelines.
- Prepare a mood board or other visual aid for the content to be created.
- Present ideas, pitches and proposals for creative content to be further developed.
- Storyboard and outline script their ideas for content to be developed.
- Interpret data, consider its integrity and use it to inform content.
- Develop accessible written content for different platforms and devices.
- Apply best practice and inclusive language when creating content.
- Write and edit copy or scripts for use on different channels and platforms.
- Create or capture visuals and audio using standard packages and equipment.
- Source, obtain and prepare media assets for use; using industry standard packages to adapt and edit content.
- Use industry standard tools and content management systems to organise, structure and label content effectively, methodically and securely enabling efficient search and retrieval.
- Identify and recommend the platform/s or channel/s to use for the media campaign.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, colleagues and suppliers, establishing and using professional contacts.
- Engage and respond with audiences through social media, adapting content to respond to evolving circumstances.
- Monitor user experience to ensure content is focused on maximising engagement.
- Analyse the differences between audiences using audience segmentation techniques and data.
- Use lessons learned to evaluate the success of the content and identify areas for improvement for future campaigns.
- Use continuing professional development planning to support own current and future training and development needs.
- Operate effectively within the production workflow to meet production timelines.
