Apprentice Security Engineer - Electrical - Didcot

Join Johnson Controls and dive into the world of Electrical Security technology! We’re talking CCTV, access control and intruder detection. You will also have the opportunity to learn about fire detection systems.

Requirements

  • GCSE in English (grade 5)
  • GCSE in Maths (grade 5)
  • GCSE in IT (grade 5) (desirable)
  • Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience.

  • This role requires a high level of security clearance. Applicants need to be a British national for the previous five years. Candidates must also have a clear criminal record as well as obtain the necessary security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, and maintain electronic security systems including intrusion detection, CCTV systems, and access control.
  • Work on large installation projects, typically taking 3-6 months to complete.
  • Gain experience across both the installation and service teams.
  • Visit a variety of sites, from residential to commercial and retail locations.
  • Collaborate with a dedicated team to become a qualified fire and security engineer.
  • Comply with safety legislation, codes of practice, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and apply control measures.
  • Complete functionality tests of systems and components during commissioning and handover.
  • Apply and implement system design, planning and installations.
  • Carry out takeover procedures, diagnose and repair faults.
  • Operate ICT equipment and systems.
  • Comply with environmental and sustainability regulations and standards.
  • Carry out risk assessments.
  • Communicate verbally with internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers using sector-specific terminology.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Consult and engage with occupants or others who could be affected by work.
  • Communicate using sector-specific terminology through written means.
  • Plan and install systems cabling.
  • Carry out maintenance activities on fire detection and alarm systems and their components.
  • Carry out maintenance activities on intrusion alarm, access control, video surveillance (CCTV) and their components.

Application Process

  • Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training.
  • Study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
  • Enrol in a Level 3 Fire Emergency and Security Systems Technician qualification delivered by Banham Academy.
  • Engage in block release basis training and receive on-the-job guidance from experienced mentors and engineers.
