Apprentice System Support Technician
Apprentice System Support Technician – Highways Systems Support Team
Suffolk County Council | Phoenix House, Ipswich
£25,185 per annum (pro rata) | 37 hours per week | Hybrid working*
As the Highways Systems Support Team on a fixed-term or secondment (18-month apprenticeship), you’ll provide crucial digital support to colleagues across Suffolk Highways and the Growth, Highways & Infrastructure directorate while gaining a Level 3 Digital Support Technician qualification.

- Learn under direct mentorship from your Technical Development Manager and System Support Technician.
This is not a traditional graduate career path—you will develop expertise over time.
Your Responsibilities
You will focus on supporting colleagues with the digital tools of Suffolk Highways, including:
- System & application support:
- Monitoring the shared mailbox to identify requests for support, training, and documentation.
- Creating guidance materials (documentation and video tutorials) for internal systems.
- Collaboration & innovation:
- Partnering with the asset data team on joint projects to streamline processes.
- Assisting in process improvements using digital solutions.
- Team integration:
- Working closely with the Technical Development Manager and a supportive team environment.
The Apprenticeship
- Standard: Level 3 Digital Support Technician (ST0120) (See Skills England details here)
- Duration: 18 months, combining practical work with structured training.
- Upskilling: Hands-on learning, certification opportunities, and priority access to future job roles (in your final 3 months of the apprenticeship).
Note: Successful completion of the apprenticeship does not automatically guarantee a full-time position, but you’ll receive priority consideration for open roles within Suffolk County Council.
Requirements
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong problem-solving ability and initiative.
- Basic familiarity with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, etc.) is valuable but not mandatory—willingness to learn is key.
- Ability to clearly document processes.
- Where appropriate, adaptability to skews, application development, and technical support ( Server, Networking and/or CSMT3 preăre they asks).
