Apprentice Teaching Assistant (High Coniscliffe CoE Primary School)
We are seeking a caring, compassionate individual to join our team as a Teaching Assistant Apprentice from September 2026. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing inclusive support to pupils with a range of learning needs, ensuring all children have equal access to education and opportunities for success. - Ability to travel to Darlington Borough Council Learning & Skills training centre (DL1 1NL) for drop-in training sessions.
- Ability to travel to the employer, based at Ulnaby Lane, High Coniscliffe, Darlington, DL2 2LL.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with class teachers and Teaching Assistants to implement individualised learning plans for pupils with all levels of needs and abilities.
- Provide one to one and small group interventions to help pupils overcome learning barriers and achieve academic progress.
- Assist in the creation and adaptation of learning materials to suit pupils’ individual needs.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment throughout school where all pupils feel valued and respected.
- Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including breakfast club, lunchtimes and playtimes.
- Provide accurate clerical support when required.
- Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.
