Hillcrest Primary School is seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic apprentice to join our friendly and supportive team. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while developing skills within a school environment.
Requirements
- Essential qualifications:
- GCSE in English (grade 4 and above)
- GCSE in Maths (grade 4 and above)
- Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

- You will be required to pass a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored support to pupils on a one-to-one or small group basis
- Support pupils to stay engaged and on task during lessons
- Assist with behaviour management and promote positive learning
- Support pupils’ social and emotional development
- Help with reading activities and monitor pupil progress
- Assist teachers with lesson preparation and classroom resources
- Provide feedback on pupil progress to teaching staff
- Carry out basic admin tasks and support classroom organisation
- Support pupils’ wellbeing, including during accidents or distress
- Assist with extracurricular activities and school trips
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

- £13.45 per hour for over 18s
- £10.76 per hour for under 18s (80% of RLW)
- Contract Type: Term Time + 5 inset days (39 weeks)
- Hours: 32 hours 30 minutes a week (Monday to Friday with a day release to College)
- Duration: 1 year 6 months
- Training Course: Teaching assistant (level 3)
- Training Provider: SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE AND STROUD COLLEGE (SGS College)
- Training Schedule: Weekly attendance at SGS College Filton Campus (term time only).
- Additional Training: Paediatric First Aid qualification.
- End Point Assessment: Practical observation with Q&A, portfolio submission, and professional discussion.
- Progression: Foundation for career paths including Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Assistant Teacher, and Teacher.
