The Pilgrim School TA Apprenticeship
The Pilgrim School has an exciting opportunity for someone who is interested in supporting secondary age young people in the classroom in an alternative setting. It would ideally suit a recent graduate who is interested in a career in an Education setting for the TA position, the apprentice would be training towards the Level 3 qualification.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working
You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- To work with individual children having special or particular needs in accordance with the child's statement where appropriate and/or groups of children as directed by the teacher
- To provide support to the Headteacher/Teacher across a range of child centred activities to promote child development and learning
- Participate in preparation of the classroom
- Monitor children's need and reporting these to a designated person
- Act in accordance with school policies and procedures and relevant legislation, particularly in relation to child protection and behaviour management

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule
Teaching Assistant Level 3
The apprentice will work within the school setting and undertake the formal qualification with Boston College, which may consist of college days throughout the apprenticeship
Desirable qualifications
- GCSE in:
- English (grade 4 or C and above)
- Maths (grade 4 or C and above)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

The apprentice would be training towards the Level 3 qualification and would suit someone who has recently left Further Education and wants a different route rather than university. The Pilgrim School has an established and highly effective team of permanent members of staff. The successful candidate will be supported and provided with a range of CPD opportunities.
