You’ll be working within the classroom with young people with the aim of working with the wider team to lead a healthy school in order to achieve the highest possible standards and prepare all our pupils to lead successful lives by challenging educational and social disadvantages.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Class Charts is used effectively, with staff setting weekly homework and issuing points on a 4:1 ratio
  • Issue Attitude to Learning reports on a weekly basis for Tutors to set targets and communicate to parents/carers
  • Analyse parent/carer and pupil usage to support and challenge them to improve usage
  • Organise half-termly rewards for attendance, in discussion with the Head Teacher (HT)/equivalent
  • Develop effective strategies to reduce exclusions
  • Ensure registers are taken in line with DfE guidelines, and track, analyse, and identify attendance patterns to improve overall attendance
  • Administer exclusions using the school process, after consultation with the Head Teacher
  • Ensure all education visit risk assessments are up to date and colleagues follow the correct process
  • Support with other ad hoc duties as and when required
  • Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners
  • Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context
  • Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy
  • Adapt resources to support all learners
  • Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role
  • Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions
  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures
  • Apply methods of formative assessment
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (e.g., scaffolding, open questioning)
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners
  • Provide feedback to learners
