Apprentice Vehicle Converter

Are you interested in vehicles, practical work and learning a skilled trade? We are looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Vehicle Converter to join our team and develop the hands-on skills needed to convert and customise vehicles to meet customer requirements.

Requirements

  • A keen interest in vehicle design, structure, electrics, mechanics and customisation.
  • A basic understanding of tools and machinery used in vehicle conversion.
  • Good attention to detail and a practical approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and follow instructions.
  • Good communication skills.
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn and the ability to adapt to new challenges.
  • Commitment to completing an 18-month apprenticeship.
  • GCSE in English (grade 4/C or equivalent)
  • GCSE in Maths (grade 4/C or equivalent)
  • Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Responsibilities

  • Support the conversion and customisation of vehicles, learning practical techniques including basic wiring, fitting and finishing.
  • Work on both exterior and interior trim, including vehicle flooring, seats, tracking, doors, bumpers, carpets and windows.
  • Learn how to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
  • Use a range of consumable materials, including polyester filler, sealants, panel wipe, glues, aerosol paints and primers.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship while following all relevant safety requirements.
  • Work as part of a team to help complete projects on time and to a high standard.
  • Take part in training sessions and assessments to support your ongoing development.
  • Carry out location, product, material and dimensional checks prior to installation.
  • Inspect the fabric of the building for suitability of weight of installation.
  • Interpret information from drawings, specifications and functional designs.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance.
  • Use and store hand and power tools.
  • Select and use personal protective equipment.
  • Remove and dispose of pre-existing products.
  • Assemble and install fitted furniture components in sequence.
  • Install boxing, boarding and frameworks, adjusting to ensure best possible fit.
  • Install and dry-fit ancillary products, for example, hinges, handles, appliances, media equipment or bathroom suite fixtures.
  • Identify and report faults, snags and issues.
  • Carry out rectification work following a root cause analysis, within limits of competence.
  • Maintain a safe working area and return to a safe condition.
  • Carry out a customer handover, including providing product guidance.
  • Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
  • Work collaboratively with clients or stakeholders to solve problems.
  • Comply with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Apply team working principles.
  • Complete documentation.

Application Process

  • Training provider: HOPWOOD HALL COLLEGE
  • Training course: Fitted interiors installer (level 2)
  • Training schedule: You will work towards a Level 2 Fitted Interiors Installer qualification. Hopwood Hall College will be the apprenticeship training provider, and you will be allocated a work-based tutor from the college who will support you through your apprenticeship. Training will be based at both Hopwood Hall College and Coleman Milne.
