The successful candidate will primarily operate in the Chelmsford/South Essex area, though applicants from across Essex will be considered.
Purpose of This Role
As an Apprentice Water Field Technician, you will collaborate closely with experienced field technicians to learn key skills for maintaining and operating clean water network assets. Your training will include:
- Valve operations
- Leakage detection
- Network flushing
- Meter reading
- Auditing newly constructed clean water infrastructure
This role is a blend of hands-on fieldwork with structured technical training, culminating in industry-recognised qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
You will support the team with essential tasks while developing your expertise, including:
- Assist with routine maintenance and inspections, acting as a site contact to address operational challenges with office-based teams.
- Support Senior Field Technicians in managing valve operations for network maintenance, including isolation tasks.
- Perform basic asset management, such as meter exchanges, resolving customer queries, and addressing issues like crossed meters.
- Respond to incidents, isolate problems (where trained), and manage safety reporting as necessary.
- Liaise with external contractors and address customer queries/complaints.
- Contribute to auditing newly constructed water assets, ensuring standards are met.
- Conduct leakage detection and pressure monitoring.
- Collect Regulatory Drinking Water Quality samples (where applicable).
- Organise work schedules, prioritise calls and administration, and oversee inventory to meet set business performance metrics.
- Attend and successfully complete mandatory training modules, both in classrooms and on-the-job.

Requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum GCSE Grade 5/C in:
- Science
- Mathematics
- A Levels (or equivalent) in:
- Science
- Mathematics
- English
Experience/Knowledge
- Customer service experience or teamwork in any sector.
Abilities/Skills
- Strong willingness to learn and participate in training.
- Fitness for travel—willingness to work across multiple sites in external environments.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Conditions of Employment
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required due to potential home visits.
- Essential: Hold a valid driving licence.
