Position: Forklift Truck Service Engineer (Apprentice Role)
Customers rely on you to diagnose and solve operational problems independently.
This role is in demand, with a growing need for skilled engineers. Crown offers a secure, long-term career in a stable industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Service and repair forklifts, developing expertise in hydraulics, LPG systems, and electric systems.
- Learn to install, repair, and carry out planned maintenance on customer forklift trucks to specification.
- Undertake a formal engineering apprenticeship, completing training modules and attending college when required.
- Work under supervision but with growing independence.
- Shadow senior colleagues and gain hands-on experience in workshop procedures.
- Attend manufacturers’ training and relevant courses.
- Learn administrative processes, including completing worksheets, timesheets, etc.
- Ensure customer forklifts are clean, secure, and properly maintained once in the workshop.
- Adhere to Crown’s security protocols and tool/spares handling procedures.
- Comply with all company, legislative, and Health & Safety regulations.
- Maintain high standards in all tasks according to industry and Crown specifications.
- Build and sustain relationships with customers, colleagues, and managers.
- Perform other duties reasonably required by Crown.

Person Specification
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Keen willingness to learn and ability to follow instructions.
- Enthusiasm for engineering-related topics.
- Friendly, relationship-building attitude with colleagues and customers.
- GCSE (A-C) grades* or equivalent in Maths and English.
- Familiarity with I.T. and Microsoft applications (Word, Excel), or equivalents.
- Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and meet deadlines.
- Hands-on practical aptitude for problem-solving.
- Strong communication, literacy, and teamwork skills.
- High motivation and self-drive.
- Dependability and flexibility in workload adaptation.
- Ability to work independently but as part of a team.

- Prior experience in mechanical engineering (school clubs, hobbies, etc.).
Vacancy Details
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 hours per day.
- Location: Basingstoke, RG24 8PD.
