Job Description: Construction Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship

Achieving a recognised degree that can lead to becoming a Chartered RICS Quantity Surveyor while all fees are paid and no student loan to pay off. On the job training while gaining valuable experience with ongoing career development. There is an industry need for this role, and it is well paid, especially when qualified.

Initially the role will involve studying and attending university on a day release basis alongside gaining on the job experience by shadowing the line manager and assisting with the following generic tasks:

  • Preparation of accounts
  • Managing documents
  • Monitoring KPIs
  • Financial reporting
  • Agreeing accounts
  • Visiting projects

Course Contents

  • Be able to apply and evaluate the principles for the avoidance of conflict and dispute resolution such as adjudication and arbitration between project stakeholders
  • Be able to identify and manage risks of health, safety and welfare in line with legislation, hazards and safe systems of work
  • Analyse costs and benefits of sustainability initiatives on a project
  • Be able to advise on the legal aspects of a project and the most suitable form of contract to be used to ensure fairness and efficiency
  • Be able to advise on the most suitable construction solutions that maximise value for clients and enhance the cost effectiveness of the project within the budget constraints
  • Be able to advise on the appropriateness of various procurement routes and manage and report on the tendering and negotiation processes to select specialist contractors
  • Advise on appropriate methods of measurement of completed works and issue documentation required for payment to specialist contractors and income from client
  • Advise construction team and the client on strategies to control predicted expenditure in line with the budget
  • Carry out risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate risk
  • Monitor, report and advise construction team on project cashflows and profitability. Evaluate and advise on financial implications of decisions during the construction phase
  • Assess, interpret and report on progress and assist in the control of programmes during the construction phase

Training Schedule

Construction Quantity Surveyor (degree) We offer a unique training programme, overseen by a designated mentor. The programme is tailored and works with a blend of formal learning leading to recognised qualification, alongside on the job training and experience. Our programme includes a three-way apprenticeship agreement endorsed by the candidate, the learning centre and us.

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade 4)
    • Maths (grade 4)
    • Science (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

The role will be based in Southampton & will involve travelling to our client sites & offices. The role will start on an agreed date (which might be different from the apprenticeship start date), you will gain valuable work experience and the degree course start date will be September 2027. Minimum grade pass to apply for the Construction Quantity Surveyor Degree course will be 112 UCAS points which are essential, either A Level or equivalent in line with GCSE subjects or BTEC.
