Apprenticeship Lecturer

Apprenticeship Lecturer – Degree Level 6 Professional Forester Apprenticeship Programme

Primary Location: Forestry Commission Office, Cannock Chase (Preferred) Base in Any Forestry Commission Office, England with Regular Travel Required

Overview of the Role

Forestry plays a critical role in addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, timber security, public wellbeing, and landscape protection across England—all challenges aligned with this opportunity.

The Forestry Commission invites passionate applicants to shape the next generation of forestry professionals through a new career pathway: the 3-year [Degree Level 6 Professional Forester Apprenticeship Programme]. This internal Development Woodland Officer (DWO) programme is open to experienced professionals and those transitioning into forestry—no prior qualifications required.

As an Apprenticeship Lecturer, you will deliver training through on-the-job and Forestry Commission-led academic sessions: mentoring apprentices, evaluating candidates, and shaping curriculum aligned with national standards such as UKWAS, UKFS, and the Forestry Act (Amended 1967). Success depends on your ability to foster engagement, technical expertise, and adaptability across England, supported by the training centre in Cannock Chase.

Key Responsibilities

Training Delivery

  • Lead delivery of both on-the-job and off-the-job (academic) apprentice training; ensure alignment with programme syllabus and legislative guidelines.
  • Develop training materials—teaching webinars, field-based workshops, or virtual modules—that allow apprentices to consolidate skills forward-thinking and inclusive practices.
  • Coordinate logistics with training administrators, ensuring events meet legislative requirements, technical standards, and venue accessibility.

Programme Support

  • Collaborate with the Apprenticeship Programme Manager, Forest Research, and the National School of Forestry at University of Cumbria to co-design academic content plan.
  • Partner on recruitment assessments—assist National & Area Team colleagues by facilitating candidate evaluation in an engaging, inclusive way, including practical demonstrations.
  • Direct development of a QA system to capture learner feedback, refine materials for continued quality improvement (based on best practice and "go-centric" principles).

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Create and manage career outreach activities with potential candidates; support internal Forestry Commission teams by functioning as a sector liaison and knowledge-sharing resource.
  • Support Development Woodland Officers in host teams through continued coaching, mentorship, and technical knowledge reinforcement.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
