About the Role
The Materials & Testing Laboratory at Syensqo’s Wrexham site is recruiting two Engineering Apprentices to develop practical engineering skills in a technical laboratory and machine-shop environment. These apprenticeship roles focus on:
- Preparing composite panels and test specimens.
- Supporting materials testing activities under experienced supervision.
- mastering panel fabrication, machining, and specimen conversion for evaluation.
No prior industrial experience is required—training is provided—making this an ideal fit for individuals passionate about engineering, materials, machining, workshop practice, or composite technologies.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will typically engage in:
- Ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, and housekeeping standards at all times.
- Following careful instructions and asking questions when unsure.
- Working with precision, accuracy, and consistency.
- Treating laboratory and machine-shop equipment with care and respect.
- Supporting composite panel fabrication and specimen preparation activities.
- Safely operating workshop tools and equipment under supervision.
- Collaborating with technicians, engineers, and the Materials & Testing team.
- Maintaining punctuality, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
- Recording work activities in compliance with laboratory procedures.

About You: Entry Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in:
- Mathematics
- English
- Experience in one (or more) of these subjects:
- Science
- Engineering
- Design Technology
- A practical subject
- An interest in engineering, workshop practice, materials, or manufacturing.
- Willingness to learn practical skills in a laboratory and machine-shop setting.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions safely.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Strong ability to work as part of a team.
Preferred Traits (Not Required but Helpful)
- Practical experience involving:
- Tools, machinery, workshop equipment, or hands-on projects (e.g., school/college work, hobbies).
- Interest in:
- Composite materials, aerospace materials, or mechanical engineering.
- Experience reading:
- Simple drawings.
- Measurements.
- Technical instructions.
- A practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving.
