The Opportunity:

To join a highly motivated & market leading team in the Trade Credit Insurance space on a global basis, with opportunities for career development, travel and a diversity of job rolls. Engagement is encouraged both internally and externally, with a wide range of counterparty’s and individuals across all industry sectors and countries.

You will be joining an established team of six Senior Underwriters and Underwriters covering the UK & European markets, helping to develop new business and service existing accounts as well as marketing the Trade Credit offering and Markel as a whole.

You will be surrounded by a friendly and collaborative team who will support you in completing your Level 3 Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship and your continuing career development.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Working within a small underwriting team to provide operational and administrative support
  • Servicing of a portfolio of commercial and financial institution clients
  • Financial analysis of buyer risks including country and sector analysis
  • Cross office engagement including liaison with Dubai, Singapore and the US
  • Maintenance and on-going development of in-house systems and databases
  • Engagement with business partners including clients and business introducers
  • Contribute to the continued development of the TCPRS portfolio
  • To support with any special projects & ad-hoc duties as required
  • Expectation for progression into an Assistant Underwriter supporting Underwriters in the development of a portfolio supported by full internal training

Our must-haves:

Markel are looking for candidates who:

  • Good computer literacy, with an excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office systems and the ability to develop a full understanding and capability of in-house and third party systems
  • Can build and maintain relationships with colleagues through strong written and verbal communication
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and perform independently or effectively as part of a team
  • A basic interest in the corporate insurance market and interest in Politics, Economics and world trade
  • Good basic numeracy & English skills
  • Have high levels of attention to detail and can work in a logical and thorough manner
  • Are able to network internally/externally to acquire and implement knowledge
  • Demonstrate a proactive attitude and commitment to grow within the company
  • Always ensure a high level of integrity and discretion, as confidentiality and sensitivity must be maintained.
  • Are always looking for ways to innovate and improve what we do, because anything less than the best, just won’t do.
  • Are proactive and committed to making a meaningful difference everyday
  • Proficiency in a second language would be advantageous but is not essential
  • Have achieved, or are predicted, 3 A-levels grade C or above or grades equivalent to 96 UCAS points.
  • Achieved GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 or C or above (or equivalent qualification).
