Shape the Next Generation of PE Teachers

Shape the future of Physical Education. Inspire teachers. Transform schools.

Have you built a successful career teaching Physical Education but feel ready for a new challenge beyond the traditional classroom?

Would you like to use your experience to influence PE on a much wider scale, helping to develop teachers, coaches, teaching assistants and schools across the UK?

This is an opportunity to combine teaching, curriculum development, mentoring and educational leadership within a growing, values-led organisation.

Educational & Sporting Futures, also known as ESF Apprenticeships, is looking for an experienced Physical Education professional to lead and develop its PE apprenticeship curriculum.

The Role at a Glance:

Apprenticeships Curriculum Lead – Physical Education.

Stevenage, Hertfordshire

£42,000–£49,000 depending on experience

Full-time | Permanent

Office-based with hybrid flexibility and regular regional travel

Company: Educational & Sporting Futures, part of The Real Group

Sector: Education | Apprenticeships | Professional Development

Welcome to Educational & Sporting Futures

Educational & Sporting Futures is an award-winning national training provider specialising in Education and Childcare Apprenticeships.

Part of The Real Group, ESF has been rated “Strong” across all areas by Ofsted, reflecting our commitment to high-quality teaching, positive learner experiences and meaningful professional development.

Our team is largely made up of experienced teachers and education professionals who understand the realities of working in schools.

We care deeply about developing people, supporting employers and helping apprentices build rewarding careers that create a lasting impact.

ESF is also experiencing significant growth. In recent years, the organisation has grown from supporting approximately 200 apprentices at any one time to more than 500, with ambitious plans to continue expanding its reach and impact.

The Opportunity

This is a substantial middle-leadership role for an experienced PE teacher who wants to step beyond day-to-day classroom teaching while continuing to shape the future of education.

You will take responsibility for the quality, development and delivery of ESF’s Physical Education apprenticeship programmes.

The role combines:

  • Curriculum leadership
  • Apprenticeship delivery
  • Tutor coaching and mentoring
  • Quality assurance
  • Stakeholder management
  • Programme development
  • Operational leadership

You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and act as a key link between ESF’s central office, tutors, apprentices, schools, employers and regional delivery partners.

Alongside delivering elements of the programme yourself, you will lead and support the tutors and partner organisations delivering PE apprenticeships across the country.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Where You’ll Make an Impact

ESF’s PE provision is delivered through a combination of internal tutors, freelance specialists and regional hub partners.

Current hub locations include:

  • Sedgefield, County Durham
  • Liverpool
  • Enfield
  • Canvey Island, Essex

You will help ensure that delivery remains consistent, engaging and high quality across every location.

As the PE apprenticeship offer continues to grow, you will also support the development of an expanding freelance tutor network.

You will become one of the key pillars of the organisation: someone who can translate the strategic direction of the Senior Leadership Team into effective, high-quality curriculum delivery across the wider tutor and partner network.

About You

You will be an experienced Physical Education teacher who enjoys helping others develop and is ready for a broader professional challenge.

You may already have experience in apprenticeships, teacher training, curriculum leadership or professional development.

Alternatively, you may be a highly capable PE teacher or Head of PE who is looking to make a first move into the training-provider sector.

What matters most is that you understand high-quality Physical Education, can develop other professionals and are confident in taking ownership of a growing curriculum area.

Essential Experience

You will need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status, QTS, QTLS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Substantial experience teaching Physical Education
  • Experience within a primary, secondary or further-education setting
  • A strong understanding of effective teaching, learning and curriculum development
  • Excellent coaching, mentoring and communication skills
  • The confidence to support and challenge tutors constructively
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • The ability to build trusted relationships with schools, employers, apprentices and delivery partners
  • A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach
  • Good digital skills, including experience with Google Workspace or similar platforms

Experience of apprenticeships, quality assurance, teacher training, programme leadership or managing tutors would be advantageous, but it is not essential.

Location and Working Arrangements

The role is based at ESF’s office in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

Although the position offers hybrid flexibility, it should not be viewed as a predominantly home-based role.

You will normally work from the Stevenage office unless your responsibilities make it more effective to work elsewhere. This may include:

  • Delivering training remotely
  • Attending meetings online
  • Visiting schools or employers
  • Supporting apprentices on site
  • Visiting regional hubs or partner locations
  • Working from home where appropriate

During your initial induction period, you should expect to spend the large majority of your time in the Stevenage office. This will help you build relationships, understand the programmes and become fully embedded within the organisation.

The role also involves regular travel to schools, training venues, hub sites and partner organisations.

Travel is generally planned within a reasonable regional area, normally no more than approximately two hours from your base, although occasional wider UK travel may be required.

Your working pattern will vary from week to week. You will have a good level of autonomy to manage your own diary around fixed meetings, training days, delivery commitments and site visits.
