Role Overview
The Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) role is critical to the operation of the Mental Health Act. Nottinghamshire County Council is recruiting two Advanced Social Work Practitioners/Approved Mental Health Professionals to work a three 12-hour shift pattern, supporting a 24-hour AMHP service.
We are seeking inclusion for skilled, enthusiastic individuals committed to delivering a high-quality mental health service using a strength-based approach.
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Meet statutory duties under mental health legislation
- Provide single-point triage within the AMHP service
- Deliver training and supervision to colleagues, including AMHP Trainees
- Offer support and coaching to Team Managers and wider system stakeholders
- Operate a strengths-based, client-focused practice model
- Manage and fulfil demands placed upon the team in a dynamic healthcare setting

Requirements
Essential Criteria
- Must be a qualified Approved Mental Health Professional or hold the relevant AMHP designation
- Ability to engage with complex mental health cases and adhere to Mental Health Act duties
- Commitment to a strengths-based, safeguarding, and inclusive practices approach
- Willingness to work in a shift-based, 24-hour service
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in training and mentoring professionals in mental health settings
- Knowledge of local governance structures and countywide mental health policies
- Availability for a competency-based placement Secondment (open to existing Nottinghamshire staff)
- Familiarity with electronic case management systems used in mental health services
