Do you enjoy working outdoors and want a career where no two days are the same? Are you passionate about protecting freshwater environments? Are you looking for an opportunity to develop your ecological survey skills with one of the UK's leading environmental consultancies? Whether you're into hiking, wild swimming, backpacking, or just being out in nature—this role offers the chance to turn your love for the outdoors into something impactful.

We're looking for several Aquatic Ecology Surveyors to join our Water Quality team on a fixed-term basis for 4-5 months, supporting water quality and aquatic ecology projects across the UK. You'll carry out field surveys on rivers, streams, and other freshwater environments, collecting environmental samples, undertaking on-site measurements, and helping deliver projects for water companies, regulators, and the energy sector. You'll also support data processing and ensure equipment is maintained to the highest standards.

You’ll be part of a network of field workers visiting a range of aquatic sites, including streams, rivers, and other freshwater sites throughout the UK, contributing to projects that help protect and improve the UK's freshwater environment. It’s hands-on, physical work sometimes in remote locations and all weathers, but you’ll be supported by a friendly and experienced team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
