Part 1 & Part 2 Architectural Assistants – Immediate Start
Alec French Architects | Bristol
About Us
Alec French Architects is an established, award-winning practice based in Bristol, working across education, housing, cultural, community and mixed-use regeneration. We're known for design-led, contextually responsive architecture with a strong emphasis on buildability, and long-term value - grounded in careful technical resolution, collaborative working, and buildings that genuinely perform for clients and communities.
The Role
We're looking for enthusiastic, motivated Part 1 and Part 2 Architectural Assistants to join our team on a placement of 3 to 12 months. This suits candidates with strong design ability, good technical understanding, and a genuine interest in developing their professional architectural skills.
You'll gain hands-on experience across live projects spanning multiple RIBA stages - from early design development and planning submissions through to technical detailing, consultant coordination, and construction-stage support.
At any given time, our team is working across a mix of project types and scales, often on several projects simultaneously. You may be allocated across more than one project team depending on studio needs, giving you broad exposure to different building types and stages of delivery.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
