Architecture Lead
Architecture Lead – Global Fintech Platform
Department: Engineering Location: Flexible (Europe/APAC)
About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned Architecture Lead to define and drive KAST’s technical strategy as we scale our global fintech platform. You will be the primary technical authority, responsible for system design, ensuring our high-throughput transaction engines and microservices ecosystem remain resilient, performant, and secure under heavy load.
In partnership with Engineering, Product, and Security leadership, you will bridge business growth and technical execution, setting standards for building, deploying, and evolving our transactional infrastructure on AWS.
Responsibilities

Own the Architectural Vision
- Define and drive KAST’s long-term technical architecture, ensuring scalability to handle high-throughput transactional volume.

Design for Scale & Reliability
- Lead the design and review of distributed systems, prioritising fault tolerance, high availability, and massive scalability in AWS-based microservices.

Optimize Transactional Flows
- Architect critical systems including payment processing, ledger management, and financial data consistency, ensuring sub-millisecond performance with audit trails.

Establish Engineering Standards
- Define architecture principles, coding standards, and deployment patterns (CI/CD, IaC) to support autonomous microservices teams delivering safely and rapidly.

Cloud-Native Strategy
- Lead KAST’s AWS strategy, balancing resource optimisation, latency, and cost while accelerating development through managed services.

Drive Security & Compliance
- Embed security-by-design principles into architecture, ensuring PCI-DSS and SOC2 compliance for our transaction-heavy environment.

Influence & Mentor
- Act as a force multiplier for engineering by mentoring senior engineers, leading architecture review boards, and shaping technical decisions.
What You’ll Bring

- 10+ years of fintech leadership, with hands-on experience architecting large-scale payment platforms, ledger systems, or high-volume financial infrastructure.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, including microservices design, event-driven architectures, and distributed transactions (consistency models, fault handling).
- AWS proficiency, with experience designing and operating complex, high-traffic applications at scale.
- Strategic financial data expertise, covering database patterns for transaction integrity, atomicity, and handling distributed data across services.
- Technical influencer with proven ability to align stakeholders, resolve trade-offs, and drive consensus on complex architectural choices.
- Security & compliance awareness, particularly in regulated fintech (e.g., PCI-DSS, SOC2), balancing data protection with system throughput.
- Growth mindset, balancing short-term delivery with long-term architectural debt management.
