Area Director – West Midlands and the Black Country
Salary: Up to £80,000 DOE
Location: Home-based with extensive regional travel

About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Area Director to lead a portfolio of veterinary practices across the West Midlands and Black Country. You will:

- Be dedicated to delivering high performance—enhancing patient outcomes, driving organic growth, and creating efficiencies
This home-based role involves extensive travel, requiring close engagement with clinical and operational teams. It offers the opportunity to influence both day-to-day operations and long-term regional success.
How You’ll Make a Difference
As Area Director, you will take a central leadership role, driving operational excellence, commercial performance and high-quality clinical outcomes. You will:
- Work closely with Practice Directors, clinical leaders and operational teams across both single-site and multi-site practices to ensure alignment, support and high performance.
- Partner with the Regional Director, HR Business Partner and Regional Veterinary Director to deliver a joined-up approach to people leadership, talent development and organisational culture.
- Embed a high-performance mindset across 20+ practices in a geographically diverse region.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead performance across clinical, operational and commercial teams, ensuring excellent outcomes for patients, clients and team members.
- Hold financial responsibility for a large regional budget, driving sustainable growth and financial performance.
- Translate business strategy into action through stakeholder engagement and leadership.
- Drive attraction, retention and engagement initiatives within the region.
- Collaborate with the Area Support Manager on priorities, performance improvements and operational excellence.
- Provide direct line management and coaching to both clinical and non-clinical Practice Directors.
- Support change management, continuous improvement and long-term regional development plans.
Requirements: Why You’d Be a Great Fit
This high-visibility role demands:
- Strong leadership, emotional intelligence and the ability to inspire teams through change, growth and challenges.
- Experience as a Veterinary Surgeon or Veterinary Nurse, with prior management experience, would be particularly beneficial.
- A people-focused leader from a professional services/healthcare/regulated environment with:
- Strong commercial awareness
- Strategic thinking skills -Ability to build trusted relationships across all levels

- Full and valid UK driving licence
- Proven multi-site management experience
- Long-standing experience with large-scale budgets
- Willingness to take extensive travel across the West Midlands and Black Country
- Ability to work approx. 40 hours per week (Mon-Fri)
