Job Description

Area Health and Safety Manager UK

We now have an opening for an Area H&S Manager UK, to support both regional and local leadership teams in establishing a safe & environmentally friendly work approach across our multiple business units and plants.

Your Responsibilities

  • Support locations to effectively implement standardized ADM H&S and/or process safety programs and systems to ensure compliance with corporate and local/legal requirements
  • Help to establish a sustainable safety culture across the sites in the region based on meeting goals, SIF prevention and continuous risk reduction. This role will provide technical, strategic and managerial direction to ensure the ADM’s regional safety objectives are met
  • Monitor, evaluate and report area H&S and process safety performance and suggest corrective/preventive actions to further improve performance
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with relevant BUs, main focus Flavors EMEA, in order to align ADM policies, programs and goals
  • Provide proactive and pragmatic hands-on support for locations, for example:
    • Organize, support and assist in the orientation and training of new Leaders (e.g. Plant Managers) and especially all H&S / process safety location colleagues in the area
    • Facilitate, support and assist in all kind of incident investigation (especially during SII – process safety Tier 1 / 2 and SIF / potSIF events) and organize incident review calls with the affected locations
    • Provide technical support (if and when required) and supports project management (CAPEX), ideally the position is proactively involved during Design Phase
    • Leading own and supporting projects and initiatives around Health & Safety and process safety in their area
    • Facilitate, Organize and Support H&S, process safety and/or Leadership training for Operations leadership in the area
    • Training & development of the H&S and process safety professionals in the area, for example by providing Train-the-trainer sessions for location H&S / process Safety colleagues and supporting regional training
    • Support and participate in regional compliance audits and assessments, if needed
  • Lead the Area H&S organization (5-10 dotted-line reports)
  • Advise management of safety and health issues, provides location managers with guidance and assistance
  • Develop own trainings, standards and procedures in alignment with ADM Corporate and/or legal requirements
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with key contacts and stakeholders
  • Work according and support local Performance Excellence (Continuous Improvement) principles, such as Structured management system, Zero loss and resulting Loss to Action support/execution, development of skills matrix/element trees, support of subcommittees
  • Model the core values with regard to safety, integrity, respect, excellence, resourcefulness, teamwork and responsibility

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering & Management, Science, Safety Management, Safety Engineering, or other related field
  • Extensive experience in a safety management or related leadership role, preferably in an industrial environment
  • Experience as management system auditor, in Incident Investigations and with behavior based safety
  • Advanced knowledge in process safety related topics (explosion prevention, PHA, Seveso)
  • Strong problem solving, diagnostic and analytical skills, with a results focused approach
  • Strong leadership and change management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, acts as a reliable pro-active communication
  • Good project/program management skills
  • A drive for success, a continuous improvement approach, a consistently positive attitude and outlook
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to bridge cross-cultural boundaries
  • A flexible approach to work including work hours and location. Frequent UK travel will be required and occasional international travel.
