Area Manager
Area Business Manager (Commercial Waste)
Location: Covering Birmingham & Wolverhampton depots Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (40 hours per week) Contract: Competitive salary plus bonus, company car/cash allowance, private medical cover, and pension
About the Role

We’re looking for a committed, innovative professional to lead our Area Business Manager role, driving growth, operational excellence, and service delivery across a portfolio of customers.
Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy:
- Accountable for leading and managing an operational area structure, influencing business development, growth opportunities, operational excellence, and service delivery.
- Directly support commercial strategy, working alongside Business Managers and Commercial teams in a safe, legally compliant manner.
- Develop and implement short-term (0–6 months) and medium-term (12–24 months) strategies, ensuring stakeholder engagement at all levels.

Performance & Growth:
- Maximise profitability, achieve operational excellence, and deliver first-class customer service while driving our business purpose.
- Support net sales growth for the Region.
- Ensure transparent, accurate reporting of business performance and resource utilisation.

Operational Excellence:
- Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and business models.
- Drive operational efficiencies through digital systems, asset utilisation, and cost control.
- Transform ways of working, processes, and culture to foster growth and team engagement.

Innovation & Compliance:
- Encourage innovation to meet evolving customer expectations, market conditions, and regulatory changes.
- Ensure legal compliance and adherence to safety standards in all operations.
Requirements
Essential:
- Proven experience leading & managing commercial waste businesses.
- Strong experience driving transformation and change.
- Strategic thinker with a solution-focused, creative mindset and the ability to implement and embed strategies in business operations.
- Skills in building relationships and influencing at mid-senior leadership levels.
- Experience leading in a matrixed environment and managing cross-functional dynamics.
- Strong project management skills, with ability to prioritise multiple competing priorities.
- Experience in cultural change championing engagement and development.
- Level 5 leadership certification or equivalent managerial experience.
