Area Manager

Area/Shift Manager at Amazon UK Services Ltd.

When you join Amazon as an Area/Shift Manager, you’ll gain experience leading a large and diverse team to ensure your area of the business keeps pace with demand. In this hands-on role, you’ll learn about the complexity of operations at a global company and discover what it takes to ensure everything runs seamlessly.

You’ll drive productivity through your team’s approach while collaborating with colleagues to resolve challenges—meaning no two days will be the same.


Key Job Responsibilities

You’ll apply your analytical skills and get hands-on to improve the functionality and service levels of Fulfillment Centers, Sortation Centers, and Delivery Stations. Key tasks include:

  • Delving into data to map processes and identify problems
  • Proposing and testing solutions, implementing the best ones
  • Collaborating with managers, technology teams, and frontline Associates to solve complex operational challenges faced by Amazon’s rapidly growing network.

A Day in the Life

  • Work the night shift, based at an operational site.
  • Core focus: Maintain safety and efficiency across your team and site.
  • Daily tasks will mix routine team management, operational priorities, along with supporting escalations, process improvements, and large-scale contingency planning.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams and external partners to meet customer demand and business targets.

  • Analysing performance metrics with leaders in your department.
  • Discussing operational and technical improvements with engineers.

About the Team (Customer Fulfilment – CF)

Amazon started as a small book-selling team, but Customer Fulfilment (CF) has now evolved into a global powerhouse handling over 1.5 million orders daily. This team is the foundation of the business and enables expansion into new regions and services.

CF is the ‘First Mile’—where packages begin their journey. Based in Fulfillment Centers at the heart of Amazon’s fast-paced Operations network, CF ensures dynamic inventory management for lightning-fast deliveries around the clock.

Amazon’s diverse workforce means plenty of opportunities for:

  • Physical product handlers
  • Data analysts supporting decision-making across teams

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree.
  • Experience managing people, including:
    • Leading teams and delegation.
  • Working with multiple stakeholders (including C-level executives and cross-functional teams).
    • Proven ability to mediate between groups.
  • Using data-driven decision-making to influence business strategy.
  • Strong English-language skills (written and verbal).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with leadership and cross-functional teams for impactful discussions.
  • Warehouse operations, logistics, or supply chain experience (equivalent industry understanding accepted).
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) or SQL in a professional setting.
