Area Manager Overview – Amazon Operations

Operations is the beating heart of Amazon. This key part of our business ensures we fulfil and dispatch orders efficiently so that our customers receive their items on time. As an Area Manager, you’ll lead a team dedicated to maintaining a safe, efficient, and high-quality operations environment—meeting customer demand while driving productivity across our network.


Key Job Responsibilities

  • Drive safety and wellbeing by creating, overseeing, and fostering a positive cultural foundation within your site.
  • Maintain quality and productivity through analysis and targeted improvement initiatives.
  • Streamline operational processes, optimise efficiency, and enhance customer service quality within your area.
  • Assess shift performance against business objectives, implementing actionable improvements to advance operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with management to standardise best practices across shifts and maintain consistency.

A Day in the Life

Your role involves a mix of tactical execution and strategic leadership:

  • Oversee shift patterns to ensure maximum productivity at your site.
  • Own shift safety and quality standards, championing a culture of excellence.
  • Lead process improvements and report findings to stakeholders.
  • Mentor new managers and set performance benchmarks.

Expect variety: routine team management, daily operations, process innovations, and handling operational challenges.


Basic Qualifications

  • Degree in business, data science, public administration, finance, engineering, human resources, or a related field.
  • Proven people management experience.
  • Track record of influencing senior leadership and stakeholders in decision-making.
  • Strong ability to use data to drive business outcomes.
  • Exceptional business English skills (written and verbal).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies.
  • Prior experience in warehouse operations or logistics.
