Role at Amazon: Area Manager (Operations)

About the Role

Operations is the beating heart of Amazon. This critical part of our business ensures we fulfil and dispatch orders efficiently so that customers receive their items promptly. As an Area Manager, you’ll be responsible for maintaining a smooth-running site to meet customer demand while leading a team focused on safety, efficiency, and high-quality operations. You’ll also drive productivity-enhancing projects across our network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, oversee, and cultivate a culture of safety and wellbeing
  • Analyse and implement changes to sustain consistently high quality and productivity
  • Oversee projects to streamline processes, optimise productivity, and enhance customer service within your area of responsibility
  • Evaluate shift performance against business objectives, implementing actionable improvements to uphold operational excellence
  • Collaborate with management-level colleagues to standardise shift best practices

Day-to-Day Life

Working on a shift pattern at one of our sites, your priorities include:

  • Guaranteeing peak productivity
  • Driving a safety-first culture
  • Ensuring quality and adherence to performance standards
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements
  • Handling operational contingency tasks—good or bad—and leading by example through mentorship

You’ll transition between routine responsibilities, team management, and strategic planning, often tackling varied tasks and challenges. Your role also involves providing guidance to new managers.

Basic Qualifications

To apply for this position, you must meet all of the following:

  • A degree
  • Experience in people management
  • Experience communicating with diverse stakeholders (peers, leadership, etc.)
  • Proficient use of data or anecdotal evidence to support business decisions
  • Advanced verbal and written English and local language proficiency

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following would be beneficial:

  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen techniques
  • Background in another logistics environment
  • Relevant experience with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) in a professional setting
