Area Manager – Main Plant (Central Region)
Location: Cambuslang Salary: £70,800 to £88,500 per annum plus:
- Up to 20% annual bonus
- Car allowance (£450 per month)

As an Area Manager within the Central Region, you will lead and develop Main Plant transmission design engineers to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions that accelerate the UK’s Net Zero Emission Target while managing a portfolio of major projects.
About the Role
You will oversee the Main Plant Design team at SPT Core Projects, delivering projects valued at £200 million to £500 million annually by 2027. Managing Design Leads and Lead Engineers, you will ensure projects are executed on time, within budget, and in line with SP Energy Networks' Standards and Policies.
Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver end-to-end design solutions for Central transmission projects within budgetary and regulatory constraints.
- Line-manage teams of engineers, ensuring coordination and collaboration across regions and functions to meet project goals.
- Oversee Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) policies, and ensure compliance with engineering standards.
- Support standardised design solutions to drive efficiency and design consistency across the business.
- Provide training, mentoring, and performance management for a professional engineering team.
- Act as a key influencer in investment planning for transmission projects.
- Implement cost-effective, renewable-focused innovations to reduce lifecycle asset costs.

Requirements
As a high-level engineering leader, you will bring:
- Proven track record in UK Main Plant detailed design, supporting major transmission infrastructure projects, ideally with multi-disciplinary team leadership experience.
- An Electrical Engineering Degree or related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (or eligibility) with technical oversight and management skills.
- Strong stakeholder communications with the ability to form effective relationships across disciplines.
- CDM and Health & Safety best practice implementation skills.
- Experience in carbon reduction and cost-saving engineering solutions, including BIM for transmission substations.
- Strategic understanding of plant operations and maintenance in transmission networks.
