Area Retail Manager

Area Retail Manager

Location: Field Based

Are you an experienced retail or forecourt leader who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment? Do you enjoy developing people, driving commercial performance, and making a real impact across multiple locations?

At MFG, we're looking for an Area Retail Manager to lead a portfolio of company-owned forecourts, ensuring operational excellence, outstanding customer service, and commercial success.

About the Role

As an Area Retail Manager, you'll be responsible for the overall performance of your region, working closely with Contract Managers to drive sales, maintain brand standards, ensure compliance, and create exceptional customer experiences. This is a varied and rewarding field-based role where no two days are the same. You'll be out in your region supporting teams, identifying opportunities for growth, and ensuring every site operates safely, efficiently, and profitably.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and support a portfolio of company-owned forecourts, driving operational excellence.
  • Coach, develop and motivate Contract Managers to achieve their full potential.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, company policies and operational procedures.
  • Conduct regular site visits, including fuel audits and operational reviews.
  • Monitor financial performance, identify opportunities to improve profitability and manage budgets effectively.
  • Work closely with supplier partners to maximise promotions, merchandising and product availability.
  • Maintain excellent standards across shop, forecourt and food-to-go operations.
  • Investigate incidents, resolve customer complaints and ensure appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Coordinate maintenance activity and minimise equipment downtime.
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers and fuel brand partners to deliver outstanding results.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
