Area Sales Manager
Area Sales Manager – Leicestershire & Nottinghamshire
Portwest, a leading global manufacturer of safety wear, workwear and PPE, is currently seeking applications for a permanent Area Sales Manager position covering the Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire region. Reporting to the Regional Sales Manager, this role plays a critical part in supporting Portwest’s continued growth as one of the fastest-growing workwear and PPE brands globally.
With roots established since 1904, Portwest designs, manufactures, and distributes over 1,400 styles across more than 20 product ranges, employing 5,100 people worldwide. The brand prioritises achieving industry leadership in personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety wear.
Job Summary
You will leverage your expertise in PPE and/or workwear to sell Portwest products to local distributors. The past years have seen significant growth, and this role supports our ongoing expansion goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Build quality business relationships with new and existing accounts
- Conduct daily face-to-face sales meetings to develop and maintain connections with distributors, resellers, and agents
- Identify high-growth potential customers and create tailored development strategies for them
- Discover new business opportunities while maintaining an updated sales planning schedule
- Utilise sales strategies to consistently win new business
- Engage in consultative selling, understanding customer needs and proposing Portwest-specific solutions
- Develop clear and effective written proposals/quotations for both current and prospective customers
- Drive new product sales by bringing samples to meetings
- Implement post-sales follow-up processes to achieve maximum close rates
- Continuously gather market intelligence, including engaging at trade shows, seminars, exhibitions, or industry journals, and share insights within the business
- Promote distributor promotions and campaigns to attract end users

Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in selling PPE, workwear, or safety wear
- Proven ability to close sales with manufacturers, distributors, resellers, and agents
- Background in sales within related industries, including:
- Automotive
- Tools
- Chemicals
- MROs (Maintenance, Repair, Operations)
- Driven attitude with ambition to contribute to Portwest’s continued growth
- Clean, valid driving license with flexibility to travel across the assigned region
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Results-driven mindset with a strong desire to succeed
- Collaborative team player with a focus on achieving shared objectives
