Area Sales Manager
Area Sales Manager – Ophthalmology North (Exclusive Opportunity)
At Scope, we are seeking an Area Sales Manager to shape our future in eyeracare by championing our mission to place people at our core.
We are looking for someone who can embed their personal values and vision into what we do, helping us become a leading force in ophthalmology.
The Role
The Area Sales Manager (ASM) will lead, coach, and manage a team of Regional Account Managers (RAMs) across a designated NHS and healthcare area, ensuring exceptional sales performance, strategic growth, and strong customer relationships.
This role plays a critical part in Scope Ophthalmics’ commercial success, driving sales excellence and shaping the company’s position in ophthalmology. The key scope is Ophthalmology – North.
Reporting to: Head of Sales
Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, inspire, and develop a team of Regional Account Managers, ensuring target achievement and selling excellence.
- Champion the Infinity sales process, ensuring adherence to best practices throughout the sales lifecycle while maintaining high standards in customer engagement and compliance.
- Full accountability for sales performance, portfolio growth, and commercial targets in the assigned area.
- Align team objectives with Scope’s global commercial strategy.
Strategic & Operational Expertise
- Offer expert guidance on NHS structures, ta Priorities Sheet applications, core eye pathway decision-making, clinical commissioning processes, and local authority dynamics.
- Support effective use of sales tools (business analytics, CRM data, ShowPad, marketing collateral) to deliver data-driven sales strategies.
- Oversee high-quality business planning, driving team and individual development through tailored training and support tools.
- Ensure budgetary efficiency (travel, territory coverage) while maximising ROI.

Performance & Collaboration
- Deliver regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and create individual development plans to foster high-performing teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Learning & Development, Commercial, Value & Outcomes, Projects, Medical, Marketing) to execute UK-wide strategy.
- Contribute to strategic business planning, offering market insights and competitive intelligence.
Representation & Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent Scope Ophthalmics at regional/national meetings, conferences, and forums, enhancing thought leadership and shaping future policies.
- Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and ethical behaviour aligned with Scope’s values.
Who We Are Looking For
Education & Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification (preferably in life sciences, healthcare, business, or related fields).
- ABPI Qualification (essential).
- A plus: Professional sales/marketing qualification (e.g., CIM).
Key Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience in pharma/healthcare sales, with a preference for ophthalmology/nursing and disability sectors.
- Proven ability to exceed sales targets in complex NHS environments with multiple stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of NHS structures, clinical pathways, formularies, and commissioning.
- Ability to utilise sales analytics (CRM, data tools) to inform strategy.
- Exceptional interpersonal & negotiation skills to influence at executive levels.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage a large medical territory effectively.
- Independent flexible worker comfortable across cross-functional teams, data-rich systems, and field business travel.
- Growth mindset with a deep customer focus.
- Proficiency in digital presentation and remote sales tools (e.g., ShowPad, CRM).
