Area Sales Manager
Business Development Executive (On Trade) – Nottinghamshire & Lincolnshire

Purpose of the Role
To deliver strategic, profitable growth in the On Trade sector by:
- Driving business development opportunities across all product categories
- Proactively leading key accounts and trade investments for strategic growth
- Securing retention, volume, distribution, and margin targets within Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire
This is a field-based role.
About the Role
In this commercial Business Development Executive role, you will:
- Grow accounts by leveraging deep brand, portfolio, and category knowledge to develop new and existing business streams.
- Maximize customer sales performance by working closely with trade partners to enhance their offerings.
- Manage trade investments within budget to:
- Drive volume growth
- Ensure optimal distribution
- Secure profit retention
- Monitor and enforce agreed credit terms, assisting with financial negotiations when required.
- Build and maintain strong supplier partnerships to secure “best-in-class” support.
- Ensure exceptional customer service and account management.
- Proactively manage performance against KPIs, including:
- Margin and revenue targets
- Volume and distribution targets
- Supplier partnership objectives
- Internal/external stakeholder engagement

Key Responsibilities
✔ Account & Business Development
- Identify and pursue growth opportunities across all FMCG product categories.
- Develop strong customer relationships with a consultative approach.
✔ Trade & Revenue Growth
- Secure and retain key accounts through tailored investments and strategies.
- Drive account-specific revenue targets via targeted trade programs.
✔ Financial & Operational Compliance
- Monitor trade spend and profitability by account.
- Ensure compliance with credit terms and financial obligations.
✔ Operator Engagement & Supplier Coordination
- Collaborate with in-house teams (e.g., Account Management, Finance, Supply Chain) for cohesive strategy.
- Negotiate with suppliers to secure optimal support.
✔ Analysis & Decision-making
- Analyze market trends, competitor activity, and financial performance.
- Present actionable insights to leadership.
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven track record in a fast-paced sales environment, ideally FMCG or drinks sector.
- Strong core sales competencies:
- Influence & negotiation skills
- Problem-solving ability
- Numerical & financial acumen
- Commercial mindset with a focus on profitability and account retention.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, able to build and develop relationships across all levels (clients, suppliers, internal stakeholders).
- Strong communication & presentation abilities, with a results-driven approach.
- Exceptional time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and generate commercial solutions.

Territory & Mobility
- Full driving licence required (field-based role).
- Ideally close to Nottinghamshire & Lincolnshire, with familiarity with the region.
