Job Summary
The Ministry of Defence, Civil Service workforce is diverse, with many different functions and professions ranging from police officers, security guards, trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff to support the British Army.
This position is located within The Army Training Centre Pirbright (ATC (P). It is a role that offers challenges and high engagement with all staff across the establishment. ATC (P) is a fast paced environment to work in that has exciting opportunities available and provides pivotal support to all members of personnel.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
As a Civilian Storekeeper, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient management, security, and distribution of equipment, materials, and stores that underpin daily military training and operations.
You will work within a busy, fast‑paced environment, supporting both military and civilian colleagues. This role offers variety, responsibility, and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the delivery of Defence outputs.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
Store Management
- Receiving, issuing, and accounting for equipment, materials, and consumables.
- Ensuring accurate and timely entry of stock transactions into relevant logistics information systems (e.g., Manage the Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI) or similar).
- Conducting regular inventory checks, reconciliations, and audit preparations, reporting any losses in line with policy.
- Maintaining correct storage conditions and ensuring stores are organised, accessible, and compliant with regulations.
Security & Compliance
- Ensuring the safe and secure storage of items within the stores area.
- Complying with Defence, Health & Safety, Fire Safety, and security policies.
- Ensuring only authorised personnel receive equipment and verifying all documentation.
- Control, monitor, and supervise all military, civilian, and contractor movement within the ESH.
- Conduct amnesty checks and procedures in accordance with ATC (P) Unit Equipment Management Instructions (EMI's)
Safety & Housekeeping
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant working environment.
- Conduct regular fault finding inspections of equipment, ensuring full serviceability
- Conducting daily checks on stores areas, signage, and equipment.
- Operating mechanical handling equipment (e.g., forklifts) where trained and authorised.
- Ensure all Health and Safety risk assessments and procedures are read, understood, and complied with.
- Comply with Health and Safety audits and maintain fire compliance and signage within the department's area of responsibility.

Customer Service & Support
- Supporting military training by providing equipment promptly and professionally.
- Working closely with military and civilian colleagues to meet operational requirements.
- Assisting line managers with audits, inspections, stock reviews, and reporting.

Teamwork & Flexibility
- The post may attract the opportunity for overtime as there may be a demand on the store which is outside normal working hours.
- Assisting with general duties across the wider department as required by the Chain of Command.
- Post holders are required to fulfil their contracted hours through a flexible shift pattern, which may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and public holidays, depending on operational needs as directed by the Chain of Command operating on a structured rota system to ensure consistent support across operational hours
- Assist the Piquet Officer with managerial stores checks to ensure stores are accounted for and stored according to current regulations.
Person specification
Essential Skills Required:
- Accuracy & Attention to detail, ensuring correct record of stock, legal compliance and traceability of issued items.
- Ability to follow Procedures and Regulations, including defence policies, safety instructions and local standing orders.
- Excellent Communication skills to work effectively with in the team and unit personnel of all levels
- Supporting other, sharing responsibilities and contribute to a positive working environment
- Basic IT Literacy skills using the inventory system, emails and electronic documentation confidently.
- Able to prioritise task, meet deadline, and manage a varied workload in a busy environment
- The role may involve handling items, moving stock and working in a store environment
