Job Summary
The Ministry of Defence, Civil Service workforce is diverse, with many different functions and professions ranging from police officers, security guards, trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff to support the British Army.
The Tactical Supply Wing (TSW) is part of Joint Aviation Command, with the goal to project & sustain aviation refuelling capabilities worldwide in order to meet UK Defence Missions and Tasks.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
TSW Armourer is responsible for the maintenance, inspection, repair, modification of all small arms & associated equipment, in accordance with current publications and regulations.
We are seeking a highly motivated and adaptable individual who demonstrates initiative and a commitment to excellence. The role involves delivering high-quality support and services to personnel engaged in training, participating in exercises, and deploying on operations worldwide. This position requires flexibility, the ability to work effectively as part of a small team, and a customer-focused, fast-paced approach.
Main Role Responsibilities:
- The maintenance, inspection, repair, and modification of all small arms & associated equipment belonging to the unit, in accordance with current publications & regulations.
- Jointly manage and share responsibility for 24/7 on-call armourer duties in coordination with the Armoury Supervisor.
- Ensure all tasks are carried out with due regard to safety & quality.
- Issue and receipt of all weapons & ancillaries held, in accordance with current regulations.
- Adhere strictly to COSHH & PPE regulations.
- Maintain work areas in a safe, tidy, and clean condition.
- Report any defective equipment or work service needs to the supervisor.
- Adhere to all aspects of armoury security.
- Use computer systems for essential tasks as required.
- Keep up to date with all mandatory Civil Servant qualifications.
- Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Senior Armourer or 2IC HQ Sqn.

Person Specification
Essential Skills Required:
- Willingness to complete the RAF recognised Small Arms Course.
- Ability to work effectively in a small team.
- Adaptability to new equipment, processes, and regulatory updates.
- Proactivity in diagnosing faults to ensure all equipment is fully serviceable.
- Clear communication with supervisors, armoury staff, and the wider unit.
- Proficiency in using computer systems for logging, tracking, and recording equipment accurately.
- Maintenance of safe working areas and adherence to strict maintenance protocols.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with the Joint Asset Management & Engineering Solutions (JAMES) system (training provided).
- Driving licence (occasional travel to RAF Cosford required).
Qualifications:
- Level 1 Engineering Qualification.

Remuneration & Benefits
- Base salary: £26,390
- Pension contribution: Ministry of Defence contributes £7,645 towards the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension Scheme.
