Job Summary

Are you a highly motivated individual with strong analytical skills and a commitment to safeguarding and public service? The Ministry of Defence is seeking a Disclosure Analyst to support the British Army by ensuring that sensitive information is assessed accurately, proportionately and in accordance with legislation and national policing standards.

Working within the Service Police Disclosure Unit, you will play a critical role in protecting the public and maintaining trust in Defence by reviewing and analysing information held across Service Police and MOD systems. Your work will directly support safeguarding decisions by providing accurate and timely disclosure recommendations to external partners, including the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to Defence and public safety while developing valuable analytical, investigative and decision making skills within the Civil Service. It is ideally suited to individuals who enjoy working with complex information, exercising sound judgement and delivering high-quality outcomes

Main Role Responsibilities:

  • To collate, analyse and evaluate Service Police and MOD information in response to requests from external partners such as DBS. Enabling preparation of reports for potential disclosure of relevant information in accordance with the National Police Chiefs Council as per Part V of the Police Act 1997 and Safeguarding Vulnerable Act 1996.
  • Disclosure analysts will use the relevant Service Police record management systems, MOD databases and any other related systems when collating and analysing information found on an individual/applicant.
  • Where a trace is found the Disclosure Analyst must prepare an archive tracking form (AT3) which is an auditable document, they will produce a rationale to show the decision making process and that considerations were made as to whether the information should be disclosed or not to DBS for inclusion on the enhanced disclosure certificate.
  • Raise casework relating to sexual, or serious offences to the Disclosure Unit Manager for higher level authority who may then raise the casework to the Chief officer, or their delegate when required.
  • The post holder will ensure Service Police Disclosure Unit work meets DBS Quality Assurance Standards, subject to audit by Disclosure Barring Services Standards Compliance Unit
  • Liaise with internal and external teams, including law enforcement agencies when vital to ensure outstanding delivery of service outputs and achieving appropriate outcomes.
  • It is the responsibility of a Disclosure Analyst to ensure all administrative points within the process are completed in line with local policies, the SLA with DBS and wider legislation.
  • Any other tasks commensurate to the grade as directed by the line manager

Person specification

Duties and responsibilities within the Service Police Disclosure Unit can be varied and this requires a positive approach, flexibility and willingness to prioritise tasks in a methodical order.

Essential Skills Required:

  • An ability to process information and assess evidence to make effective decisions.

  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience and understanding of Office 365 applications.

Desirable Skills:

  • Understanding of the Disclosure and Barring Process
  • Knowledge of the Service Police systems/data bases, PNC, REDCAP and JPA would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of data protection and familiar with safeguarding legislation.
