The Role
We are excited to invite applications for an Artist in Residence to join the NIHR Patient Safety Research Collaborative (PSRC), based within the School of Pharmacy. This opportuntity is part of the PSRC project’s aims to explore creative arts collaboration and its potential for public engagement. It is open to creative practitioners across a wide range of disciplines including visual and digital arts, film, dance, music, sound, performance, and more.
We are seeking proposals from artists with a socially engaged practice, particularly those experienced in working alongside people living with—or caring for those with—multiple long term conditions (MLTCs) from all backgrounds.
The successful artist will work closely with the PSRC’s leads for Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE), the Director, and researchers across our themes. The role will involve developing activities and public facing creative outputs that respond to our research, reflect the lived experiences, insights, and feedback from patients and carers involved in NIHR Newcastle PSRC projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
