At Tarmac, who you are matters. We are currently looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Asphalt Performance Manager to join our National Performance team within Contracting.
This is a highly influential national role focused on driving innovation, performance improvement, and operational excellence across our asphalt and contracting business. Working at the forefront of paving technology and decarbonisation, you will play a key role in shaping the future of the industry through initiatives such as Roads of the Future, high-specification paving projects, and continuous improvement programmes.

- Reviewing and enhancing operational processes, standards, and the National Contracting Operational Handbook
- Working collaboratively with supply chain partners to optimise plant, labour, haulage, and operational resources while reducing delays and inefficiencies
- Acting as a champion for safety, ensuring policies, procedures, and legislative requirements are fully embedded and communicated across the business

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
