Milk Education is recruiting on behalf of a specialist education setting in Durham for a Learning Support Assistants. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates or support professionals looking to gain valuable experience before pursuing a career in Educational Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Support, Youth Justice, or SEND Education.

Working within a small, supportive class team, you will support children and young people who have autism (ASD), SLD, ADHD, and SEMH. Your role will focus on helping pupils rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships with education, and re-engage with learning in a safe and nurturing environment.

  • Graduate or experienced Learning Support Assistant
  • Passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs
  • Empathetic, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Interest in Educational Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health, or SEND Education
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion and positive outcomes for all learners
  • Ability to provide two recent references

🎯 Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small group settings
  • Help children experiencing anxiety or school refusal feel safe and supported in school
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Encourage communication, confidence, and emotional regulation
  • Support structured activities that promote independence and life skills
  • Assist pupils in managing routines, transitions, and social situations
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to implement support plans
  • Use positive reinforcement and consistent approaches to encourage engagement with learning
  • Support pupils with autism, communication differences, and additional learning needs
  • Help young people rebuild confidence and reconnect with education
