Aspiring Psychologist – Learning Support Assistant

Start Date: ASAP (multiple roles available) Working Hours: Monday to Friday, term time only Pay: £107.70 per day

Milk Education are recruiting Learning Support Assistants for Primary schools in Leeds. This is a full-time opportunity for aspiring Psychologists who want to gain practical experience supporting vulnerable young people in an education setting: Your role will centre on providing structure, emotional support, and positive guidance, enabling students to regulate behaviour, access learning, and build confidence.

  • Understand behaviour linked to trauma and unmet needs
  • Support students diagnosed with Autism and ADHD
  • Develop and implement behaviour regulation strategies
  • Build trust with young people who may find mainstream settings challenging
  • Apply de-escalation and restorative approaches
  • Enhance emotional wellbeing support and boost confidence
  • Learn how SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs influence learning and relationships
  • Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals

Purpose

The core focus includes:

  • Keeping students engaged and emotionally regulated during school
  • Raising confidence, attendance, and engagement
  • Ensuring a safe and predictable learning environment

  • Supporting students in re-engaging with education
  • Demonstrating that past challenges do not define a young person’s future.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 or small-group support for students
  • Help pupils manage behaviour and emotional triggers
  • Facilitate focus and participation in lessons
  • Serve as a calm, positive role model
  • Build strong, professional relationships with young people
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral teams
  • Foster routines, boundaries, and positive choices
  • Promote confidence, self-esteem, and overall progress

Requirements & Benefits

  • A degree in Psychology or a related accredited subject
  • Experience in youth work, coaching, mentoring, care, or support work
  • A keen interest in behaviour analysis and mental health methodologies
