Assessor in Early Years and Education
Assessor (Early Years & Education) – Sandwell College
This is an exciting opportunity to join Sandwell College’s highly successful Early Years and Education team as an Assessor. We’re seeking a qualified childcare professional with assessment experience and a passion for supporting learners to achieve their full potential.
Reporting directly to the Head of Section, you will deliver high-quality assessment, training, and support across Early Years programmes, ensuring strong learner outcomes, engaging with employers and colleagues to shape programme delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality assessment, feedback, and support for learners in Early Years and Education programmes
- Develop innovative delivery models and customised training to meet employer and learner needs
- Manage an agreed caseload of learners, ensuring timely achievement and progression
- Conduct workplace assessments, applying a range of effective methods
- Monitor learner progress and maintain accurate tracking systems
- Ensure learners are registered with awarding bodies and meet programme requirements
- Produce reports on recruitment, retention, achievement, and performance
- Support curriculum development, planning, and quality improvement activities
- Liaise with employers, awarding bodies, and moderators to guarantee external quality assurance
- Maintain accurate academic and administrative records in compliance with college policies
- Undertake external examinations and assessments within childcare settings
- Contribute to standardisation meetings and professional development activities

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Qualifications & Experience Required
- A relevant professional qualification in Childcare/Early Years (minimum Level 3)
- Teaching qualification (‘ Pearson TESOL, ‘CTLLS’ or equivalent) or an inherent commitment to achieving this
- A valid assessor qualification (‘D32/33’, ‘A1’ or equivalent)
- Proven experience assessing and training in Early Years, Childcare, or a related sector
- Strong current industry knowledge of Early Years pedagogy and best practice
Personal Attributes
- Experience in managing learner caseloads with a track record of successful outcomes
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational abilities, able to manage deadlines, targets, and competing priorities
- Proficiency in eLearning tools (e.g., ILT platforms) for assessment and training delivery
- A comprehensive commitment to equality, diversity, safeguarding, and learner success
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential for fieldwork)
