Assessor - Plumbing
About The Role
As a Plumbing Assessor, you will support apprentices throughout their apprenticeship journey by assessing competence in both the workplace and college environment. This includes evaluating practical skills, technical knowledge, and professional behaviours against the Apprenticeship Standards and in line with ESFA requirements, providing clear and constructive feedback to support learner Development and achievement.
Working in partnership with employers, you will ensure apprentices receive high-quality training that meets both qualification requirements and workplace needs. You will play a key role in supporting apprentices to stay on track, build confidence, and successfully achieve their qualification.
This is a full-time, permanent role covering Reading and surrounding areas, with flexible and hybrid working options available.

Key Responsibilities - Plumbing Assessor
- Conduct workplace and on-campus assessments to evaluate apprentice progress against the Plumbing Apprenticeship Standards.
- Provide clear, timely, and constructive feedback to support apprentice development and progression.
- Maintain accurate assessment records using digital learning platforms and e-portfolio systems.
- Build effective working relationships with employers to ensure apprentices receive appropriate support and opportunities in the workplace.
- Support apprentices with action planning, progress reviews, and preparation for End-Point Assessment (EPA).
What You’ll Need to Succeed as a Plumbing Assessor at Activate Learning
To be successful in this Further Education assessor role, you will bring strong industry experience in Plumbing, alongside a passion for education and skills development. You will be confident working independently, managing a caseload of apprentices, and adapting your approach to meet individual learner needs.

Skills And Qualifications
- A recognised Level 3 qualification (or above) in Plumbing or a related discipline.
- Significant industry experience within Plumbing, Gas and Domestic Heating.
- A recognised assessor qualification (D32, D33, A1, TAQA, or CAVA).
- Experience of mentoring, coaching, or assessing apprentices or learners in a work-based or FE setting.
- Strong communication, organisation, and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence using digital learning systems and e-portfolios.
- Knowledge of ESFA funding and apprenticeship compliance requirements (desirable).
- A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
