Job Description

Overview

You’ll have a range of development opportunities and appropriate training will be provided.

About the Role

The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don't just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities, and our environment.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Asset Performance Advisor to provide technical leadership and drive performance across the Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire Asset Performance Teams.

This role will require working from one of our area offices on average 3 days per week and average of two days on site.

The role is about ensuring that our flood risk assets perform effectively as we manage the risk of potential flooding to people and property. It is varied and involves identifying priorities and ensuring we comply with legal requirements and internal policy. Customer engagement forms a critical part of this role, good communication skills are very desirable.

You will be expected to provide technical advice on the effective completion of the annual works programme as well as maintaining, repairing, improving and operating of a range of flood risk assets both from rivers and coastal.

As responding to incidents is a central part of what we do, you will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents. This may attract an additional payment and full training, and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

Due to the nature of the sites we visit and stand-by incident duty required as part of this role, all candidates must live within 45 minutes of their base location and be able to swim.

You will need to have a Full UK driving licence prior to applying and access to your own vehicle.

The Team

The Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire Asset Performance Teams manage the whole lifecycle of our flood and coastal erosion risk management assets, i.e., planning, delivery, maintenance and decommissioning.

The teams are responsible for ensuring the assets are constructed, inspected, surveyed, assessed, maintained, and operated in a safe manner. The team’s objective is to reduce flood risk to people and property by ensuring flood risk assets operate as intended and deliver multiple benefits where required.

Experience/Skills Required

You will understand and have experience in project/programme management, engineering and/or asset management. Associated qualification to at least Diploma level desirable.

You should also have:

  • Working knowledge of flood risk, and flood risk management.
  • Good communication skills. You will liaise with internal teams and external organisations.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and practices including CDM2015.
  • Experience of coaching or developing others’ skills/knowledge.
  • Working experience of risk management procedures.
  • Effective planning skills with the ability to multitask, prioritise and deliver results to tight deadlines.
  • You must be able to take initiative, be flexible, solve problems and make decisions.
  • Excellent IT skills and experience of managing and interpreting data.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
