Assets and Infrastructure Manager
Grade 13 Resources and Waste Service Place Directorate
Shape the Future of Derbyshire's Waste Infrastructure
Derbyshire County Council is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Assets and Infrastructure Manager to lead the strategic management and development of a significant portfolio of operational waste assets.
This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of the long-term planning, maintenance and development of infrastructure that underpins essential public services across Derbyshire. You will play a key role in ensuring our waste facilities remain safe, compliant, resilient and fit for future generations, while helping the Council respond to changing legislation, emerging technologies and environmental challenges.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Resources and Waste, you will lead a small specialist team and work closely with senior managers, elected members, consultants, contractors, regulators and government bodies. You will be responsible for developing and delivering long-term asset management programmes, overseeing major capital investment projects, managing former landfill liabilities and providing expert advice to support strategic decision-making.
About You
We are looking for a confident and commercially aware leader who can combine strategic thinking with practical delivery.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
