Assistant Accountant Opportunity

Are you looking for an Assistant Accountant opportunity to take ownership of high-value capital projects, working closely with operational and finance teams to drive governance, compliance, and financial control across a large organisation?

Do you enjoy combining strong financial administration, stakeholder management, and process improvement skills to ensure assets, investments, and capital programmes are accurately managed from approval through to completion? Join us as our Assistant Accountant, based in our Controllership department in our Northampton Head Office.

This is a full-time, permanent position based on site. Working Monday to Friday within the hours of 08:00 to 17:00.

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £30,000 per annum and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). What You’ll Do on a Typical Day

  • Own the end-to-end capital project setup process, ensuring accurate project creation, maintenance, and governance
  • Coordinate and manage approval workflows, acting as the key liaison between Operational teams and Finance stakeholders to ensure timely project approvals
  • Process fixed asset transactions including disposals, transfers, and impairments, maintaining robust audit trails and compliance documentation
  • Manage the full asset capitalisation lifecycle, from PO approval through to final capitalisation, ensuring adherence to approved business cases and company policies
  • Support financial control activities through account management, month-end journals, reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and wider Finance Controllership support

What You Need to Succeed at GXO

  • Finance background gained through academic study (e.g., degree) and/or practical finance experience, with a commitment to pursuing an accounting qualification
  • Strong Excel skills with the ability to analyse financial information accurately and efficiently
  • Excellent analytical and attention-to-detail skills, ensuring high levels of accuracy and compliance
  • Confident communicator who can build effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Highly organised and proactive, with strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
