Assistant Accountant / Part-Qualified Accountant

Location: City of London (Hybrid - 3-4 days office based)

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 + Bonus + Study Support

Your new role

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Part-Qualified Accountant / Assistant Accountant to join the finance team. This is a varied role offering exposure to both transactional and month-end accounting responsibilities, along with opportunities to support financial planning, forecasting and business partnering activities. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the finance function whilst supporting the wider business with financial insight and operational excellence.

  • Manage accounts payable processes including invoice processing, supplier statement reconciliations, and payment runs.
  • Oversee accounts receivable activities, ensuring timely collection of income and accurate allocation of receipts.
  • Reconcile multiple bank accounts and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Process, allocate, and reconcile insurance and reinsurance premiums across insurers, brokers, and relevant tax authorities.
  • Monitor payment due dates and proactively manage collections to maintain strong cash flow.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with brokers, insurers, and external stakeholders.
  • Support month-end processes including journals, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assist with the production of management accounts, P&L reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Provide financial insight and business partnering support to operational stakeholders.
  • Assist with payroll processing and related reconciliations.
  • Utilise Xero on a daily basis to maintain accurate financial records and reporting.
  • Contribute to process improvements and finance transformation initiatives as the business continues to grow.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Studying towards ACCA, CIMA, or ACA (or equivalent experience).
  • Previous experience within an Assistant Accountant or Accountant position.
  • Insurance or reinsurance sector experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and cash management.
  • Experience working with premiums, broker accounts, or insurer settlements would be advantageous.
  • Experience producing management accounts and supporting budgeting/forecasting activities.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting systems such as Xero.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships across the business.
  • Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently whilst contributing positively to a wider team culture.
