The Role
The Assistant Accountant will provide key administrative and accounting support to senior colleagues, handling day-to-day financial tasks for a varied client portfolio. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Luton, with core office hours and some work-from-home flexibility.

Key Responsibilities:
- Process invoices and bank transactions efficiently
- Maintain accurate financial ledgers for clients
- Assist with weekly and monthly payroll, ensuring timeliness and compliance
- Prepare CIS returns and support year-round tax filings
- Contribute to VAT return preparation
- Contribute to management accounts and financial reporting
- Respond to client queries, explaining processes and providing guidance
- Ensure all records remain compliant and up to date
- Work collaboratively to deliver accurate and timely financial intelligence to clients
This role requires accuracy, organizational skills, and willingness to learn in a dynamic accountancy environment.
Requirements & Qualifications
Experience & Knowledge:
- Foundational understanding of accounting principles, including bookkeeping and double-entry accounting
- Experience with reconciliations and ledger maintenance
- Familiarity with payroll and CIS processes
- Skilled in handling basic tax compliance tasks

Technical & Software Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting/payroll software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks)
- Strong Microsoft Excel expertise
Soft Skills & Attributes:
- Attention to detail and numerical accuracy
- Ability to organise and maintain financial records efficiently
- Clear communication skills for client and team interactions
- Strong multitasking and prioritisation skills
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications Preferred (but not essential):
- Partial or full qualification in accounting (e.g., AAT or ACCA)
- Equivalent practical experience may also be considered
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving client needs
- Open to professional development within the accountancy sector
- Adaptable to both office-based and remote working arrangements
